Navarathri is the festival of nine days and nights in which the first 3 days are dedicated to the worship goddess Durga and second 3 days are dedicated to the worship goddess Lakshmi and final 3 days are dedicated to the worship goddess Saraswathi.

This is my first year of celebration of  Navarathri Golu. In Tamilnadu, the festival of navarathri is called Golu. During these days they display various dolls in odd numbered tiers ("padis" or "steps"). As this is the first year of the celebration, I started with 3 steps.

Kalasha or Purna Kumbha is prepared and is kept the day before navarathri (ie. Amavasai day) as invitation to the goddesses to enter home. Kalasam is prepared using a brass pot by filling the bottom of the pan with fresh water and on top of it placed coconut decorate with tumeric paste, kumkum. and you can aslo use betel leaves which I don't get it here. This kalasha is kept on the first step.

My first step has Hayagriva, Goddess Laxmi, Goddess Durga, kalasha, Lord Vinayaka, Lord Muruga along with Valli, Rama,Sita,Lakshma and Hanuman set.

My Second step has all 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu. From left to right, I kept Matsya (fish), Kurma (tortoise), Varaha (boar), Narasimha (half-man, half-lion), Vamana (dwarf man), Parshurama (man with an axe), Rama (moral man), Krishna (philosophical man) and Budha (Budha is the 9th Incarnation Of Vishnu) and atlast the tenth avatar,Kalki (yet to manifest).

My Third step has Marriage set and chettiar bommai.

At the bottom, I kept Lord Vinayaka which my husband made using clay on vinayakar chaturthi. And also on the left side I created a Zoo.

I planned to invite my friends and family each day and will give the prasad (offered to the God that day), Kumkum and a small bag of fruits.

First Day: For Neivediyam, I made Black Channa dhal Sundal and Navarathri Puttu.

Second Day:  For Neivediyam, I made Karamani Sundal and fried Kadalai Paruppu puran poli.

Paruppu Thuvaiyal / Dhal Chutney is my favourite side that will go along with any kind of main dish. This Paruppu Thuvaiyal is prepared by dry roasting the Bengal Gram and Urad dhal. With the added touch of Red Chilli that gives spicyness for the Thuvaiyal. Paruppu Thuvaiyal taste good with any form of variety rice. I prepared Tamarind rice and had this chutney and is really amazing and it remembers my childhood. Try this and Enjoy. Have a happy cooking:)))))
